How Breviax Began
In 2019, founders Alex Chen and Jamie Morrison shared a simple vision: create a space where exceptional coffee meets genuine community connection. What started as late-night conversations over home-brewed coffee evolved into Toronto's most welcoming neighbourhood cafe.
Named after the Latin word meaning "brief" or "concise," Breviax represents our belief that life's most meaningful moments happen in simple, authentic encounters. Whether it's the perfect extraction of a single-origin espresso or a heartfelt conversation between neighbours, we celebrate the beauty found in life's brief but profound experiences.
Our journey began in a small 800-square-foot space on Wellington Street, where we served our first customers with a single espresso machine and an unwavering commitment to quality. Today, we've grown into a thriving community hub while maintaining the intimate atmosphere and personal touch that made us who we are.
Every bean we source tells a story of sustainable farming practices and fair trade partnerships. We work directly with coffee farmers across Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala, ensuring that every cup supports both exceptional quality and ethical practices. Our roasting process happens in small batches, allowing us to highlight the unique characteristics of each origin.
